The Music Experiment
By using a highly structured and scaffolded approach to musical improvisation, The Music Experiment allows each student an opportunity to experience a dynamic, real-time creative process. Incorporating key practices from a Design Thinking model, students harness their innate creativity by interacting and improvising with one another to create an original composition, allowing them to rapidly prototype multiple solutions. Critical thinking and communication skills are at the core of this curriculum. By using improvised music as a starting point, we are able to break down the traditionally limiting judgements that often get in the way of creative self expression and collaboration. Students, including both advanced musicians and students with no prior musical experience, are excited to partake in such a richly authentic creative process.
The Music Experiment works well for students enrolled in classroom or extra-curricular music programs and is also highly effective for students participating in leadership or diversity initiatives.
